Trying to refill original Epson cartridges which have sponges can result in ink squirting out because refilling can cause internal pressure that does not happen with the spongeless ones - so people can get somewhat multi-coloured in the process.

Now, there is debate on for and against sponges but I have used refillable cartridges (with their own chips as supplied) that are spongeless and have never had any problems and the inexpensive chip resetter works fine on either.

Generally, most Epson original cartridges have sponges. Basically, chip resetters work on any chips.
